Simple Video Capture is a Chrome extension that records any browser tab as a WebM video file — including the tab’s audio. No screen sharing prompts, no cloud uploads, no accounts — just click record and you’re done.
Most screen recording tools are bloated, confusing, or want to upload your data somewhere. Simple Video Capture was built to do one thing well: capture your browser tab and save it locally. Your recordings never leave your computer.
The extension uses the Chrome Tab Capture API to grab the video and audio streams from your active tab. It records using the browser’s built-in MediaRecorder API into WebM format. When you stop recording, the file downloads to your computer instantly.
The extension is free to use with Standard and High quality and recordings up to 30 minutes. An optional Pro upgrade ($9.99 one-time) unlocks Maximum quality (8 Mbps) and unlimited recording time.
Simple Video Capture was built by Duncan Rawlinson, a photographer and technologist based in Canada.
The extension collects zero personal data. No analytics inside the extension, no tracking, no accounts. All recording runs locally in your browser.
