Frequently Asked Questions

Is Simple Video Capture free?

Yes. The free tier includes Standard and High quality with a 30 minutes recording limit per session. An optional Pro upgrade ($9.99 one-time, not a subscription) unlocks Maximum quality and unlimited recording time.

What browsers does it work with?

Simple Video Capture works with Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc, Opera, Vivaldi). It requires the Chrome Tab Capture API, so it does not work in Firefox or Safari.

Does it record audio too?

Yes. The extension captures both the visual content and the audio playing in the tab. No microphone is used or needed.

What video format does it produce?

Simple Video Capture saves recordings as WebM files using the VP9 video codec with Opus audio. WebM is supported by all modern browsers, VLC, and most video editors.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once installed, the extension records entirely offline. No internet connection is needed. The only network request the extension ever makes is a one-time Pro license validation if you choose to upgrade.

How long can I record?

Free users can record up to 30 minutes per session. You’ll see a countdown warning in the last 5 minutes, and the recording auto-saves when the limit is reached. Pro users have no time limit.

Where are recordings saved?

Recordings are saved to your default Downloads folder as WebM files. The filename includes a timestamp so you can easily find your recordings.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Video is recorded locally in your browser and saved directly to your computer. There are no analytics and no tracking inside the extension. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Can I record multiple tabs at once?

The extension records one browser tab at a time. To record a different tab, stop the current recording first and start a new one on the other tab.

Can I record my webcam or desktop?

No. Simple Video Capture captures only the content inside a browser tab. For webcam or desktop recording, use a desktop screen recorder.
